Tongits Go at luna — a real test of skill and strategy at the card table

Tongits Go is a card game of Filipino origin, now available to players in Bangladesh at luna through JILI. This is not a lucky draw — every decision counts: which cards to keep, which to discard, and when to call "sapot".

How a round works

The basic flow of Tongits Go, step by step

Tongits Go is played between three to four players. Each player starts with 12 cards — one player receives 13, as they will discard one card on their first turn. The remaining cards are placed face-down in the centre, forming the "deck".

On each turn, a player draws one card from the deck or picks up the card discarded by the previous player, then discards one card from their hand. The main goal is to form "melds" from the cards in your hand — meaning sets of cards with the same number or consecutive cards of the same suit.

  • Card Deal
12 to 13 cards are dealt to each of the 3 to 4 players. A standard 52-card deck is used.
  • Taking a Turn
On each turn, draw one card from the deck or the discard pile, then discard one.
  • Declaring a Meld
When you form a meld in your hand, place it on the table — this reduces your points and lets others add their matching cards to your meld.
  • Tongits or Sapot
If your hand is completely empty, that is "Tongits" — the highest win. If the deck runs out, the player with the fewest points wins.

What happens when the deck runs out?

When the centre deck is exhausted, the total points of the remaining cards in each player's hand are counted. The player with the lowest points wins that round.

Point Count Round End

What is sapot?

Any player can call "sapot" before the round ends if they choose to. Hand points are then compared — if their points are higher than everyone else's, they lose.

Hand rankings and point counting

Which cards carry how many points — explained in detail

Every card in Tongits Go has a specific value. An Ace is always 1 point; cards from 2 to 9 carry points equal to their face value; 10, Jack, Queen, and King are each worth 10 points. The more points remaining in your hand at the end of a round, the greater your penalty.

Meld Type Example Benefit
Three of a Kind 7♠ 7♥ 7♦ 3 cards removed
Four of a Kind K♠ K♥ K♦ K♣ 4 cards removed
Sequence (same suit) 3♥ 4♥ 5♥ 3+ cards removed
Long Sequence 5♣ 6♣ 7♣ 8♣ 4+ cards removed
Tongits (empty hand) All cards melded Highest win

When a meld is placed on the table, other players can add their matching cards to it — this action is called "laying off". Doing so also reduces the points of the player who lays off.

Tongits — the highest reward

If you manage to place all your cards into melds, or empty your hand by discarding your last card, you achieve "Tongits". This is the strongest outcome of a round, and all other players' points are doubled.

The competitive structure of Tongits Go

luna Tongits Go multiplayer table with various players

Tongits Go is primarily a multiplayer card game — you are not playing against a computer dealer, but against real players. In JILI's digital version, three or four players sit at a virtual table, and every decision goes up against the thinking of actual people.

This structure is what makes Tongits Go particularly engaging. When you discard a card, you can see whether the player beside you picks it up. If they do, that card is useful to them — recognising this and adjusting your next move is a significant skill.

Just like other table games at luna Casino, Tongits Go at luna gives you the feel of real-time competition. Each round begins with a fresh deal, so the pattern from the previous round gives no guarantee for the next.

For those who prefer playing alone, like slots or fishing games, luna also offers slots and other single-player options.

Practical tips for new players

Know these things before sitting at the table for the first time

01

Discard high-point cards early

High-value cards such as King, Queen, Jack, and 10 should be discarded quickly — if they cannot form a meld, they will cause significant damage at the end of the round.

02

Watch the cards your opponents discard

If someone repeatedly discards cards of the same suit, it means they have no meld in that suit. Use this information to decide which cards to hold back.

03

Delay placing your meld

Once you place a meld on the table, others can add cards to it. So keep your meld in hand until it is complete.

04

Think before calling sapot

Calling sapot triggers a comparison. If your points are higher than everyone else's, you lose — so do not call sapot unless you are confident.

Popular variants of Tongits Go

The versions available on JILI's platform

Besides the main Tongits Go, JILI offers several variants that build on the core rules but run at a different pace or with a different betting structure. All these variants are available in one place at luna.

luna Tongits Go Classic variant gameplay

Classic Tongits Go

A three-player table following the standard rules. The round ends by point count when the deck runs out, or when someone wins by Tongits or sapot. This variant is the most suitable for new players as the pace is relatively slower.

What to follow for playing well over the long term

Table Etiquette

Tongits Go is a multiplayer game, so taking your turn on time is essential. Excessive delays harm the experience of other players. Come mentally prepared before each move rather than wasting your turn through indecision.

If a chat feature is available, use it respectfully. Celebrating a win is fine, but criticising others after a loss is not.

Respect Timeliness

Session Management

Set a budget before each session and stop when you reach it. Playing many rounds in a row reduces focus and leads to more mistakes. Take a short break at least every hour.

Increasing your bets to recover lost rounds is a common mistake. For more on responsible play, read the Responsible Gaming page.

Budget Breaks

Avoid the trap of chasing losses

Continuing round after round with the mindset of "I will win this time" lets a session go out of control. luna allows you to set session limits and deposit limits on your account — keep these active. If you have concerns about your playing habits, contact 24/7 live chat directly.

Common questions about Tongits Go

The most frequently asked questions about the game

While card distribution in Tongits Go involves luck, it is fundamentally a strategy game. The decisions you make — which cards to keep, which to discard, how to read your opponents' moves, and when to call sapot — directly determine the outcome. Experienced players consistently achieve better results than beginners, which shows that skill makes a real difference.

It depends on how quickly players make their decisions. A round typically finishes within 3 to 8 minutes. Taking turns quickly shortens the round; if many players take their time, it runs longer. On JILI's fast tables, the average time is even shorter.

No — calling sapot is a risky decision. When you call sapot, everyone's hand points are compared. If your points are higher than anyone else's, you lose — even if you thought your hand was good. So before calling sapot, you need to be sure your points are genuinely the lowest at the table.

If a player places a meld on the table, other players can add matching cards from their hand to that meld. For example, if someone lays down three 7s and you have the fourth 7, you can add it to that meld. This reduces the points in your hand. Keep in mind, though — others can do the same with your melds.

Yes, JILI's Tongits Go is optimised for mobile screens. Enlarged card display, tap-to-select, and a clear button layout make the mobile experience comparable to desktop. This game is also readily available on luna's Android and iOS apps.
